Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has been widely praised for his visionary efforts to elevate golf, setting a new standard for sports and tourism development in the region.
Speaking in Calabar, Lady Anne Ene Ita, Chairperson of the Calabar Golf Club Project Committee, lauded the governor for recognizing golf as a strategic tool for relaxation and global engagement. “Golf is more than a sport—it’s a gateway to health, leisure, and international connections. Governor Otu’s leadership in this area is truly commendable,” she stated.
Lady Ene Ita, a retired federal permanent secretary and the Female Captain of the Calabar Golf Club, assured stakeholders of the committee’s commitment to excellence. She highlighted the unwavering support of the state government in driving the project forward. “We are dedicated to ensuring that this project meets the highest standards, reflecting the governor’s vision for sports development,” she added.
Providing updates, Engr. Francis Archibong, the project’s supervising consultant, detailed the comprehensive upgrades underway. These include nearly completed perimeter fencing spanning over 900 meters, significant clubhouse renovations involving roofing, electrical work, painting, and the construction of a new reception area.
Other enhancements include a new gatehouse, a caddies’ shed, and a modern parking lot, all progressing smoothly to position the Calabar Golf Club as a competitive venue on both national and international levels.
This marks the first major state government investment in the Calabar Golf Club since its founding in 1991, a clear demonstration of Governor Otu’s dedication to advancing sports and tourism in Cross River State.
