Information reaching Negroid Haven suggest very strongly that no lesser than 22 persons resident in Calabar metropolis of Cross River state are feared dead. This spate of killing is traceable to cults activities.

As at Monday 4 May, it was gleaned from a reliable source that no fewer than 5 males in their youth were macheted down by these faceless men at Mbukpa and Anantigha streets. These are the nefarious activities of the infamous Calabar 'South Boys' in CR state. By Tuesday 5 May, the 'boys' decided to upgrade the number of their callousness by 'dropping' 17 other souls.

It was further garnered by Negroid Haven that the specific cult groups involved in this killing spree are Skylo Boys, Black Night, Baggers aka Ekpad and Scorpion. Skylo and Scorpion are in collaboration, as Black Night and Baggers are in tandem. This is when the 'host of evil' decided to operate in conference in fostering evil ideals in a hitherto peaceful society.

These type of inhumane activities are going-on unchallenged in the state capital. Security agents have gone into recession or better still hiding. These youths who are now in their elements are perceived to receive a major part of their arsenalĀ  from politicians during the just concluded general elections. These politicians had equipped these irate youths to inflict mayhem on perceived political opponents. Sequel to the elections they decided to extend their trade to perceived enemies in society. This is the type of leadership politicians in Nigeria and third world societies bequeath to the citizenry.

Negroid Haven as a proud member of the fourth estate is condemning these spate of killings in the strongest possible terms. No individual has the right to take the life of a fellow individual. Taking one's live is not justified by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria nor the culture of the Efik, Qua or Efut irrespective of the degree of provocation. There are appropriate means and channels of addressing grievances. The gun or machete is not one of them.

I am therefore charging the foremost security officer of the state, HE Liyel Imoke, governor of Cross River, to rise up to the challenge and clamp down on these irate youths and their network of wickedness. Other security agents like the Nigerian Police Force, Department of State Security, Civil Defence, etc should prove their onions now to a disillusioned sect of society. Calabar should regain her peaceful credentials.
