It has just come to my notice that a certain Petrol Station, EDDY EXCEL Petroleum Ltd, No 8/10 Palm Street located within the residential area of Palm Street (almost by Target) in Calabar South is about to be torched .

This particular station was forced on the people by someone in the Governor’s Office, some 3 years
ago, despite all the protestations – both official and unofficial. Being a conduit for black market activities in Calabar; a particular fuel tanker went to deliver petroleum products to the station owner and being
in a hurry to continue to other illegal assignments, ran into a nearby wedding party and killed some
people. In response, a mob killed the driver on the spot and are at the point of burning down the station …after looting and stripping the station.

This was a tragedy waiting to happen…and I hope that those in the Government, who are always eager to approve Petrol Stations in our urban areas, will henceforth, be more diligent.

On 22/12/2014, six persons were murdered in the same petrol station. And there have been 8 armed robbery incidents in the station so far. Residents and inhabitants of the Target/Chambley/Palm street areas have not lived in peace, since the Station came into illegal being. The Police has, however arrived, while the mob is still baying for blood.

Governor Ben Ayade, is requested to look into the various cases and protests of sitting Petrol Stations
within Residential areas in Calabar, please.
