HEALTH: Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria Hold Lecture, S.A Health Invited as Guest of Honour

ASSOCIATION OF MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENTISTS OF NIGERIA (AMLSN) HELD THEIR ANNUAL PUBLIC LECTURE AND NEC MEETING IN CALABAR AS SPECIAL ADVISER ON COMMUNITY AND PRIMARY HEALTH CRS, DR BETTA EDU WAS GUEST OF HONOUR.

The S.A, Dr. Betta Edu on 5th February, 2016 was one of the speakers at the National Annual Public Health Lecture (PHL) and 193rd National Executive Council (NEC) meeting. She emphasised on the important role that must be played by Medical Laboratory Scientists to help the state and nation deliver quality health care.

The aide also emphasised on their role in combating various dieases like Ebola and Lassa Fever that has contributed to mortality in Nigeria. She also briefly spoke on the outbreak of Lassa fever in Nigeria and preventive measures to be adopted in order to eradicate the disease from the country. Also, she informed them that Cross River State has not recorded any Lassa Fever case, but has put measures in place to combat the disease incase of any outbreak in the state.

The S.A did not fail to highlight strategies adopted by the state Government under the amiable leadership of Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade to deliver quality healthcare services to the people through the proposed State Health Insurance Scheme that will enable low income earners afford high cost medical treatment. According to her, 'this is a form of risk sharing that will prevent catastrophic health expenditure'.

She charged the association to always  bring their programmes to Cross River State assuring them of Government support. In her words 'we urge you to use this opportunity while in Calabar to visit tourist attractions such as Tinapa Business Resort, Agbokim and Kwa Water falls, Cross River State National park and Marina resorts etc.

Finally she thanked them for coming and promised full state government participation in their next NEC meeting to be hosted in the state.
