By Lizzy Adie, 15th February 2016. A 28 years old lady confirmed to be a victim of the first case of Lassa Fever in the state has died. The victim Eze, was reportedly admitted into the isolation unit of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) Sagamu and had spent one week and two days before she finally gave up. The State Government had disclosed that it had recorded two cases of Lassa Fever, but the first case has just been confirmed dead. The commissioner for health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye who disclosed this at a press conference in Abeokuta, recalled that the deceased had traveled back to the state from Ebonyi in January 15th 2016 and was admitted into two private hospitals in Ado – Odo /Ota Local Government where she was detected to be carrying Lassa Fever Virus. According to Dr. Babatunde, the deceased has received a nine – day course of ribavirin, potent antibiotics, appropriate blood transfusion and necessary psychosocial support. We were only waiting to celebrate the completion of meditation today and take a blood sample to confirm cure when unexpected complication set in on Saturday February 13th 2016. |
