Do you consider it an exaggeration if I say that : " At last, the Gods have Decided to Smile on Nigeria?"
This article is a sequel to an earlier published post I made, dated 12th of February,2016.
In that publication, we`informed our teeming readers about the Bilateral relationship existing between Cross rivers state and the Government of United Kingdom. In which the latter did conclude plans to establish a giant industry that will help create entrepreneurial skill acquisition and also drastically reduce the challenge of unemployment in the state.
It is upon the above premise that I wish to say that another country has decided to partner with Cross river again.
Information reaching our News desk, has it that the Government of Ireland has deemed it fit to also establish a Development Centre in Cross river state.
This centre it is hoped would help address the problem of youth restiveness in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
Laying credence to information from Vanguard online Newspapers which purports that the Republic of Ireland has indicated its preparedness to partner Nigeria, using Cross River State as the pilot state, to ensure it attains socioeconomic and infrastructural development.
On the question of why the centre should first be established in the people's paradise, the Irish ambassador, Sean Hoy argued that Criss river has always stood as a tourist attraction and has stood out in Art and Culture.
He further argues during a courtesy call to the governor of Cross River State, Prof Ben Ayade, that he was in Calabar, to develop a framework of development that involves the states and Federal Government with a view to finding the way forward and ensuring the socioeconomic development of Cross river in particular with extension to the Niger Delta region and Nigeria in general.
In the words of Amb. Hoy,
“We are here to support them, ..we believe that the development of the Niger Delta can be done better than before. Resources are not actually the problem, but how to prioritise issues of development.”
Reacting to the argument by the Irish ambassador, His Excellency, Governor Ben Ayade avers that it is very critical as well as imperative to address the restiveness that has beclouded the Niger Delta region.
According to him, no development can thrive in a crisis and tension laden environment.
