Mourinho has put pen to paper on a three-year deal worth £48million after six weeks of talks.
A United source has revealed the agreement is for him to take over at Old Trafford in the summer, not before.
It's claimed the former Chelsea boss will be earning a bumper wage of £308,000 a week in a bid to turn around United's fortunes next season.
It's hoped Mourinho's appointment will undo Van Gaal's style of play that has riled fans, former players and football pundits alike.
