The member representing Ogoja State Constituency in the 8th Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Peter Odey, has pledged both to develop Cross River youths especially those of Ogoja extraction as well as move Ogoja forward in his politicking.
According to the Honourable Member his plans for moving his immediate constituency, Ogoja, forward will be actualised by affecting positively the youths of Ogoja on whose shoulders the destiny of the people lies.
One of the numerous ways of actualising this promise is by initiating a football competition tagged: Hon. Peter Odey Football Competition for under 18 Students of Ogoja Origin in Secondary Schools. If you quite remember, the said Honourable Member had paid bursary to students of his immediate constituency this year 2016 about 4 weeks ago. And is also reputed to be admired by the leadership of the House of Assembly owing to the quality of bills which he sponsors and the articulateness of the said Honourable Member. For instance, he it was who sponsored the bill seeking to domesticate Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) in Cross River State. That bill is now an Act of Parliament. He is also the brain behind the creation of the Cross River State Sustainable Development Goals Agency.
This football competition is aimed at fishing young talent in the area of this sport, build the values of team work, discipline, resilience, faith, and unity, among others in the future leaders of Ogoja.
I wish to commend Hon. Odey for taking out time to personally going to London to purchase the cups that will be presented at the end of the competition which commenced on the 16 of February. We will not be surprised if Ogoja becomes a rallying point in the near future. I encourage other Honourable Members and politicians to follow the lead of Odey.
