CRS To Receive 70 VSCAN Access Ultrasound for Health Facilities In the State

The Director General of the Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency Dr. Mrs. Betta Edu disclosed that the state is to receive 70 VSCAN Access Ultrasound equipments after attending the launching of the Healthymagination Mother & Child Initiative sponsored by USAID, and General Electric in partnership with the National Primary Health Care Agency and the Federal ministry of Health in Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

The DG noted that in a world where too many women don't survive childbrith and too many newborns don't survive their first month, ensuring the health of every mother and infant is more than a social concern; but must be a pressing priority of every government. She noted that the Governor of CRS Sen. (Prof) Ben Ayade and his wife Dr. Linda Ayade have taken maternal and child health as priority by providing free health care for pregnant women and children under five. She further stated that many strategies are being put in place by the CRS primary Health care agency to reduce this scourge to the barest minimum in our communities.

She said the Vscan Access Ultrasound which is simple, mobile, durable, and clinically apt is specially designed for primary health care workers to help expand the reach of quality care to mothers who need it most in rural areas. She explained that with Vscan, care givers at primary health centers can conduct examination on pregnant women that may result in the early dectection of potentiallly life-threatening complications either in the mother or the unborn child.

The DG who attended the event with the Commissioner for Health Dr. Inyang Asibong, noted that midwifes and front line health workers will be trained on how to use the Vscan Access ultrasound equipment.

The event at abuja was graced by the US Ambassador, James F. Entwistle, the Minister of State for Health Dr. Osagie Ehanire, Executive Director NPHCDA, Dr. Ado Muhammed, Heads of GE, USAID, Pathfinder and other major stake holders in maternal and child health.
