On Tuesday, 8th March 2016, the world celebrated the International Women's Day. It is a day where women are recognized for their achievements and where emphasis is on gender balanced leadership, respect and value for women. This year celebration theme is "Pledge for Parity".
Cross River State Ministry of Health donated drugs worth thousands of Naira to the state Ministry of Women Affairs to boosts free medical checks and treatment initiated by Her Excellency, Dr (Mrs) Linda Ayade, also supported by Nigeria Medical Women Association, (NMCN) CRS branch for women in the state.
The Honorable Commissioner For Health, Dr (Mrs.) Inyang Asibong handed the drugs to Mrs Stella Odey, State Commissioner for Women Affairs in her office towards preparation to mark women's day.
Dr Asibong pledged the ministry's commitment to join hand with the first lady, Dr. (Mrs.) Ayade to eradicate all forms of ill health practices and violence against women in the state. "The ministry of Health shall be committed with her Excellency's mandate for women in filling the gap in public health, health information and services in promoting sexual and reproductive health that will do away with ill practices that generally debase women and the girls child. We shall continue to assist where necessary to develop health policies and services on gender based violence to build a truly inclusive society " said Dr Asibong.
On receiving the drugs, Mrs Odey thanked Ministry of Health's support and called for women to be given their pride of place in our society and that the health ministry should continue to strengthen thoughts with the women affairs ministry to tackle practices harmful to women health.
