The Director General of the CRS Primary Health Care Development Agency Dr. Mrs. Betta Edu and the Chairman of Calabar South LGA Hon. Majore Asuquo, on Saturday 19 March, successfully flagged-off the 2nd Round of the National Immunisation Plus days in CRS. Dr. Edu stated that the First Round of the exercise that was flagged off by the Governor, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade who was ably represented by the Deputy Governor Prof. Ivara Esu was very successful with over 100% coverage.
The DG noted that the state is on top of its game as it concerns providing immunisation services to children in the state. She stressed that although CRS and Nigeria have been delisted from the polio endemic countries, We cannot afford to relent on our effort untill we are certified polio free by next year. She commended the effort of the state government under the dynamic leadership of Sen. Ben Ayade, for providing enabling support to make this process a success.
The dynamic DG noted that this second exercise was special because there will be house to house enumeration of all children under five. This is to aid proper planning and implementation of health care services for children under five in the state. The state will also be immunising at border communities along side surveillance at our borders to prevent cross border transmission of diseases.
The Chairman of Calabar South, Mrs. Majorie, in her remark thanked the state government for the level of attention they are giving to the health sector adding that people in the communities are feeling the positive impact. She called on all mothers and care givers of children between the ages of 0 to 59 months to participate in the exercise as the vaccines are free and safe for all.
Highlights of the day was immunisation of children by the DG Dr Betta Edu, Hon. Majorie Asuquo and women leader of Efut Uwanse Clan . As well as presentation of gifts to children immunised.
