It was another busy day in the very tight schedule of Dr .Mrs. Betta Edu, the Director General of Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency. Usually she gets to work in the morning, goes through her administrative duties and heads to communities where she is touching the lives of many Cross Riverians.
However on this faithful Tuesday morning last week, her secretary informed her that one Dr. Effa was there to see her. In her usual humorous manner she replied "I have told you not to keep anyone waiting except its Mr. President".
Then came Dr. Nsor Effa a Consultant Physician, who owns a medical practice in Atlanta Georgia, USA. He said he was at the DG's office at the instance of a group of Doctors who have been closely following her activities in the state via social media. He further stated that he is from Cross River and was proud to note that a Cross Riverian was bringing this change to the health sector in CRS. He said on arrival last week into Nigeria, he went on a fact finding mission at his community in Ikom LGA and in a few other communities and everyone had something positive to say about the primary health care system.
After confirming what they read on social media, he traced her office to see her and commend her. In his words, "we don't know how you are able to do so well in this time of economic downturn. We have decided to support you in our little way by linking you to charity organisations that will help you. Our association will come with drugs for free medical outreach to communities later in the year".
In her response the DG thanked the Association for the encouragement stating that she is motivated to do more. She also thanked them on behalf of the Governor, Sen. Ben Ayade for their willingness to help improve the health system in CRS. Noting that Government is ready to partner with any group to improve the lot of the state.
Highlight was presentation very of beautiful gifts from the Association to the dynamic DG.
