In reaction to the news that the Federal Government has released the sum of four hundred and twenty million Naira (N420 million) to each of the 36 states plus the FCT to revitalise primary healthcare centres, Cross River-born social commentator, Simon Utsu, has contended that the FG should have increased the sum given to Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency under the leadership of Dr Betta Edu on the premise that they may not put the money to good use as Dr Edu. Utsu further noted that Dr Edu is the best appointee being one of the few shining lights in the Governor Ben Ayade’s administration. He highlights her passion and dedication and contend that Dr Betta Edu calls to mind a former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke.
In the words of Utsu, ‘The FG should have quadrupled the amount given to my home state, Cross River for good reason. The reason is, I don’t think any other state will put theirs to good use as much as mine. This is because the DG of the state’s primary health care agency, a very young Dr Mrs Betta Edu has so far proven to be the best appointee of Governor Ayade and one of the very few shining lights in his so far lacklustre government’.
‘She has been refurbishing and equipping primary health centres from Obudu to Bakassi right from day one. She’s so passionate about her job and has so far shown us that passion and dedication are the two most important ingredients for good governance to thrive’, he continued.
The social commentator particularly notes that, ‘When you read about her drive and good works, the female version of former Governor Donald Duke easily comes to mind’.
