Governor Ben Ayade & Ms Cherry Godwin

Efio-Ita Nyok|19 August 2016

On Monday 15 August the indefinite suspension of both the Cross River State Commissioner for Water Resources, and Managing Director of Cross River State Water Board (CRSWB), Ntufam Gabe Odu Ojie and Igile Oju Igile respectively was announced by popular media platforms in the state and the governor's media aides. This was due to late coming on the part of the officers who were yet to be in their respective offices even as at 9:00AM when the governor arrived the scene of their offices.

Upon the announcement of the suspension a handful of the public reacted in consent to the Governor's decision. For instance, one Bekongfe Agweye reacted this way: 'Long overdue. The incessant water outtage is already alarming and a weekly occurrence. In fact some parts of Calabar like Ikot Ansa area have not had water for about one whole week now'. On his part, one Clement Eworo said, 'Thank you lord! That's a good one from my amiable governor. This so called Oju Igile who had been using his political appointment to intimidate us in our community, because he was opportuned to manipulate through our ward which he doesn't even originates from. He should go back to Asiga and join his first son whom he has neglected far back in his career (fishing). Hahahaha……, igile, you never chi chom tin!'. Again, Mohie Francis Oko consented thus: 'Yes, very good. 'I-don't-care' attitudes must be checked. No serious-minded business man will tolerate lateness any form of lateness form his/her employee or employ a manager who goes to work late. Look, government/governance is business'.

These reactions may not have  understandably gone down well with those affected especially one Cherry Godwin, allegedly the daughter of the Managing Director of CRSWB Limited. Godwin expressed her dissatisfaction in the following words, 'All of you wishing for my dad to be suspended, you'll get your own fare share of God's judgement. How heartless can anyone of you be? Why is it that human beings are so bitter and don't want the progress of their fellow human being? Why? Because you feel you can sit in your homes and come here to lash out words about something you know nothing about you feel you are spotless? Oh! So sorry! I see the reason….it's simply cuz you didn't get to where he is today or rather your children couldn't and wouldn't get to any of his children's level today! PS: my Father Dr Godwin Oju Igile soon to be Prof is sitting in his office as I type this and he is doing his job and no one suspended him or the commissioner yes no one. Do u know what he has done for Ben Ayade? Do any one of you know? Come here spitting trash about a man that doesn't know how to shed blood like most of you here have done. A man that suffered to train all his siblings single handedly,a man that sweated to get all what he has today which most of you here don't even have a quarter, a man that made his family love themselves without thinking evil, a man that is extremely intelligent and can even take Cross river state to higher places, a man that has travel far and wide and is still traveling enjoying not the fruit of his labour, a soon to be Inlaw and grand dad. All of you here are simply jealous because of his achievements without the help of politics or Nigerian money. Do u know what we have passed through as his children? Do any single one of you know? Do u know what it means to suffer just to get to this level and now some ignorant buffoons are here saying things they know nothing about! Get your facts right and let me warn you…..stop being bitter. Instead look for how to be better than me or any of my siblings ok! I thank God for putting you all to shame! My Family will continue to remain strong yes I assure you that! And as for u Clement A Eworo you are among the few that benefited from his appointment yet you derive joy in spitting disgusting words from your mouth. Don't worry mark this day….you'll regret your actions and you'll also regret the day you started working in waterboard'!

On his, Paul Ojeka, one of the governor's media aide on whose wall the entire brouhaha transpired cautioned Godwin to be friendly in her reaction. In his exact words, 'Cherry Godwin: Reactions to posts on my timeline must be friendly – there is no room for "foul language". I do not also support anyone to gloat over the plight of another man'.

'Cherry, anybody could fall victim of the circumstance your amiable dad finds himself because in the philosophy of Ayade, "no one is above the law".
Once again, it's an abomination to go into a slanging match on my timeline. Take note: your father is an educated man who wouldn't commend you for bragging in public. We all need him to "take Cross River to higher places", Ojeka continued.
