The Young Democratic Party (YDP), Cross River State chapter has called on the youths of the state to shun all forms of social vices and embrace peace, as well as chart a new cause in the quest for leadership.
Making the call yesterday 12th September at its temporal office at Marian, in Calabar, Cross River State, the state chapter Chairman Comrade Castro Ezama while briefing the press on the newly advertised positions in the Ward and Local Government Executive Committee across the state maintained that this was in line with the mission of the party to take democracy back to the people at the grassroot.
Comrade Ezama re-iterated that 'all other existing political parties in Nigeria have failed in carrying the youths along in leadership, as they are used during elections and dumped when these politicians enter their various offices, hence the emergence of Young Democratic Party registration in January 2016'.
Ezama contended that social vices are bad habits or immoral activities that are common among young males and females like prostitution, indecent dressing, robbery, cultism, pocket picking, drug addiction, examination malpractice, hooliganism, thuggery, gambling, smoking, pre-marital sexual activities and rape.
The state party chairman noticed that it was rare to find a school or an institution void of social vices which depicts that they are present in all educational centers -primary, secondary and tertiary.
In the same vein, the Leader of Young Democratic Party in Cross River State, Comrade Anthony Bissong Attah assured youths in the state of implementing projects that would help curb youth restiveness. He noted that peer pressure is the major cause of youth involvement in social vices. 'Students spend more time with their friends in school or at home and that due to their weak nature and tender age, they can easily be influenced since they have a high level of curiosity to learn, have fun and practice new things thus making them smoke, drink, engage in premarital sex, etc'.
Leader Attah & Chairman Ezama used the opportunity to call on all progressive youths across the state who have a burning desire to lead, to indicate their interest in the vacant positions declared by the party as follows:
