The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani, has been the subject of profound public scrutiny for perceived abysmally poor performance since assuming office almost one year ago as a federal appointee of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Obudu, Cross River-born Simon Utsu, a Lagos-based social commentator whose themes border on politics, governance, music, sports, etc has expressed his profound disappointment over the effectiveness of Minister Usani. Commentator Utsu who is questioning the achievement of the Cross River-born federal minister has observed quited disappointedly that Minister Usani's official influence doesn't transcend the virtual space of social media which for Utsu the later intends to sell off himself as 'a seasoned diplomat'. In fact, Utsu particularly labels Usani as 'the black sheep amongst the plethora of Cross Riverians appointed into sensitive Federal positions by President Buhari'. What!?
Utsu begins his yesterday's social media opprobrium like this: 'What has the Niger Delta Affairs Minister, Usani Uguru Usani achieved since assuming office many months ago?'
Daringly, Utsu proceeds to respond to his question: 'He seems to be the black sheep amongst the plethora of Cross Riverians appointed into sensitive Federal positions by President Buhari. His only presence is on Facebook where he writes posts in a bid to come across as a seasoned diplomat'. Utsu's perception thus compels him to remind an alleged failing minister thus, 'Please, Mr Minister, you were not appointed to write essays or do question and answer sessions on Facebook. If I should tell you the truth, your performance so far has been so poor. I even stumbled on a twitter poll/write-up done by renowned social media critic Kayode Ogundamisi some days back, which singled you out as one of the worst ministers in this dispensation'.
'If I may ask, what are you doing with the billions that were allocated (and released) to your ministry at the beginning of the budget year? Keeping it in a fixed deposit account to gain some weight or leaving it dormant so at the end of the year, you can return it to your boss like the Biblical cynical and sombre servant, who didn't know what to do with his talent and ended up returning it to his master when he came back from his journey?', Utsu pushes further.
Utsu again identifies the seeming achievement of his subject which he thinks is only make face on Facebook, 'Your many efforts to sell yourself to Nigerians as the quintessential diplomat have been noticed quite alright but that's not what will fix the hundreds of bad intra state roads scattered around the Niger Delta. Kindly sit up; Niger Deltans are tired of waiting for your action, enough of social media essays and words, act now!'
It will be recalled that Utsu had taken a swipe at all federal appointees of President Buhari of Cross River origin whom he describes as not having successfully brought their national influence to bear on the state. Yesterday, he seem to be specific. Maybe, he will proceed to another appointee of the President perceived not to be up and doing. Will Usani outline his successes or sit up if there's none?
