Information reaching this press outfit suggest strongly that there seem to be a revival of cult gang rivalry in the city of Calabar after a brief respite about three months ago.
According to a freelance journalist, Inyali Peter, 'Over 30 suspected cultists attacked Police Patrol team at Eyamba Street, Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River state on Tuesday, October 11 at about 9:30PM'.
'The attack which reportedly claimed the lives of two policemen and one cultists also saw two police patrol vans belonging to Cross River state security outfit, Operation Skolombo burnt', Peter further said.
The renowned whistle blower, Ifere Paul's account goes thus: 'There is a renewed war between various factions of cult groups… In another development, Operation Scolombo and police motors were burnt down by militants'.
Paul pegs the responsibility of this security breach in the state capital on the Governor of Cross River State, Mr Ben Ayade albeit in an unusual way. This is what I mean: 'It is important to note that these activities are as a result of the coffin that was paraded round Calabar to welcome Governor Ben Ayade. The spiritual implications of paraded a coffin was explicitly talked about in my previous article titled "Ayade demonizes Cross River State".
Killings have been reported to have taken place in Egerton, Eyamba and Bogobiri streets.
'Governor Ben Ayade has not distributed the SUVs he bought for police men and other joint task forces to help combat crimes. The vehicles are parked at the governor's office for decoration', he pinpointed.
Could there be a nexus between Saturday 7 October parading of 'RIP Joe' crested coffin to the renewed spate of killings by cult gangs? Can we delineate a spiritualist dimension to the 'coffin carnival' of last weekend or was it a mere physical demonstration of support for His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Cross River State?
