About 3818 young men and women in Cross River State have received enterpreneurial training to transform the economy of the state to a green economy.
The enterpreneurial training which is done under the auspices of The Youth Leadership Enterpreneurship Access Development Project YouLead is being facilitated by CUSO international an NG0 which is funded by the Canadian government.
Speaking at the training workshop for Heads of Local Government Administration HOLGA organised by The Youth Leadership Enterpreneurship Access Development Project YouLead, facilitated by Cuso at the secretariat of Calabar Municipality Council, in Cross River State, Programme Manager, policy and natural resource management for YouLead, Godwin Utah stated that no fewer than 65 staff of different ministries departments and agencies in the state had also benefitted from the training in different areas of skill acquisition between last year and this year.
Ugah, stated that YouLead which is being facilitated by CUSO international, an NGO funded by the Canadian government had established over 600
small and medium scale enterpreneurship to eradicate poverty and youth restiveness among young people in the state.
He said that capacity assessment carried out in 17 local government areas of the state had identified possible areas of further training, business development, with a view to drive green
economy concept home to the people.
"Talking about green economy, we target natural resources sector, including
agriculture, forestry, aquaculture (fish) pond, ecotourism, etc. We select
young persons and trained them on how to manage different value chains,and their core specialty and entrepreneurial
choices", he explained.
The programme manager maintained that the NGO hope to achieve enhanced sustainable growth and prosperity for
women, men and children in the grass root across the three senatorial districts of the state.
A participant/HOLGA boss in Biase Local Government Area of the state Mrs Oma Ekefre while fielding questions from journalists shortly after the programme, said that the knowlewge gained at the workshop will be properly utilized to eradicate poverty in within their council areas adding that natural resources within their council areas will be properly harnessed for the betterment of their people.
Ugah stated that the economy is targeted towards harnessing natural resources like agriculture, forestry, aquaculture, ecotourism and several others to make young men and women become self reliant rather than walking the streets in search of jobs that hardly exist.
