L-R: Joseph Odok Esq., Ph.D and George Odok |
Efio-Ita Nyok|9 July 2017
Two Nigerians, namely, Messrs George Odok and Joseph Odok, have clinched on the Sunday 9 – Saturday 15 July 2017 edition of NegroidHaven Personality of the Week.
The duo of the Odoks are highlighted by NegroidHaven for the glaringly obvious roles they have individually played in averting communal crisis of a humanitarian category in Boki LGA, central senatorial districts of Cross River State, south-southern geopolitical zone and Nigeria at large especially as it relates to the teething Borum Palm Estate crisis.
If you appraise the degree of catastrophe in Ukele, Yala north in the past two weeks or thereabouts where Cross Riverians numbering over 20 have been killed and over 4,000 displaced to neighbouring Benue state as IDPs then the Odoks should be acknowledged.
Joseph Odok an activist, barrister at law, university lecturer and acclaimed social change agent and George Odok a journalist and senior defense correspondent with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) have employed social and print media and other offline engagements to crusade against the polarisation of Boki LGA youths. Again, Joseph Odok had recently traveled to Boki to intervene in the crisis.
As it stands, it’s alleged that Boki youths have been militarised. Already, the brouhaha has recorded one death. If not contained, it will escalate.
The deliberate patriotism of the Odoks is hereby commended. Recall that Mr Simon Utsu was named as the Sunday 2 to Saturday 8 NegroidHaven Personality of the Week.
I am calling on the state government to embark on deliberate measures to address the Borum Palm Estate challenge.
