In his 10th July 2017 'NEVER AGAIN' social media thread where one Mr Lukozo John Etim, who reported the gruesome murder of a petrol filling station manager, Monday, in Ugep, Yakurr LGA, has expressed sundry sentiments faulting the 'killer list' of the traditional ruler of Letampankom in Ijiman Town in Ugep Urban, Yakurr LGA and Special Adviser to the President on Prosecution, Chief Okoi Ofem Obono-Obla. Mr Etim, who did not identify Obono-Obla in his thread, has said in categorical terms that the approach to the cult incident was wrong. He has particularly found as worrisome the fact that some names Obono-Obla's killer list found themselves there as a result of open reservations against the All Progressives Congress APC.
His words, 'We had approached the cult incident all wrong. There was the issue of somebody publishing names of suspected killers. Most people thought the originator of the list was biased. It is even believed that most persons were included because they showed open dislike for the APC, a fact I find most worrisome but undoubtedly so. There is also the issue of listing only members of one group when it is a known fact that two cult groups were involved. There had also been complains of improper manner of investigation before arriving at the shortlisted names, with unsubstantiated proves that 'timbo-timbo-last-calabar' was used because most of them were not at the scene of the incident.
'There are people who wondered what the killer list was intended to achieve, they assumed that each of the warring cult groups have a membership strength of over 200, and then shortlisting less than 30 implies that those involved one way or another but not shortlisted are exonerated. A section of the people, the elites, queried why the head of the listmakers should undermine the Stool of the Obol Lopon of Ugep in an attempt to unravel the 'mystery' of the death of his Nephew. They assert that the position must be respected irrespective of who sits on it. A better part of the population, one that cannot be overlooked also, gave kudos to the listmakers and find delight in the fact that the bad Boys have disappeared. But them, just like the other schools of thought, greatly assume that the manner the list was published portrayed 'prosecution'. That some persons were just being everything including the judge.
'Now, look at where we are. The bad boys are back to hunt us. If they remain at the nearby forests as it is being taunted, then we are in for a bigger trouble. Hunger will drive them out. Sex could too. Even boredom and family should', Etim continued.
Etim sued for peace while advising that the boys who are already on the run because their names where identified in Obono-Obla's killer list should encouraged to come back he as the killer should be pinpointed and prosecuted accordingly:
'Let's review our approach. Let's embrace peace. They all should be advised to come back home. The killer must be pinpointed for 'prosecution'. The both groups must accept a No Victor- No Vanquish status for the purpose of peace. They must also learn from this experience to remodel their purpose or where necessary disengage and devise another method of becoming useful to the society. Subsequently, every member of the populace must complement the security agencies by reporting unwholesome acts promptly. We must be our brother's keepers', he concluded.
