As at the early '80s, the area known as Uyo was called, Efik Uyo, in fact, the late Uyo political juggernaut, popularly known as, Eyo Uyo, once, attested to this fact and that there are many Efik communities in Akwa Ibom State, which for fear of being starved of any modicum of development, refuse to identify with their kith and kind, like the Ikot Offiongs, hence, (the sacking and hunting of same), and Itu Okon Itu (hence the refusal to allow a motorable road to even reach the ancient missionary settlements in the area).
Calabar Province, was a political contraption that was started by the colonial masters, that covered the entire geographical area known as Akwa Ibom State, up to the area known as Biase LGA and even at one time, the Arochukwu area, but as political demarcations continued, the area was reduced to the small size of Calabar South, Calabar Municipality, Akpabuyo, Bakassi, and Odukpani LGAs and further only retained by name by the two first mentioned LGAs above.
Due, to the long expansive history of the name, everyone in Akwa Ibom and the 7LGAs in the south of Cross River became "A Calabar Person", outside Calabar, but today, by reason of the Cross River State political contraption, even the Ogojas are wrongly called, Calabarrians but soon, when Ogoja will ever be created, they might loose the ones popular Ogoja name for people from Abi/Yakurr to Obanliku, to just a simple, now very simple but potent political force name, given to them by our Akwa Ibom brothers and The 5alive southern LGAs of Cross River as —Atamite!
