We can do more in partnership, CRSHA speaker tells NBA

The Nigerian Bar Association has been called upon to partner with the state government particularly the House of Assembly to achieve mutually beneficial ends saying ‘we can do more in partnership’ NegroidHaven has garnered.

The 8th Cross River State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon John Gaul Lebo made the call recently when the Cross River state chapter of the Nigeria Bar Association visited his office in Calabar.

He maintained that much more could be achieved if the association collaborated with government, adding that the Assembly was already exploring areas of partnership to enhance its functions with a view to moving the state forward.

On the issue of seeming embargo on land transactions canvased by the association, the Speaker assured that the Assembly would engage the appropriate quarters to ensure that all pending land transactions in the state were duly attended to.

In his speech, the Chairman of NBA Calabar branch, Hon (Dr) Emmanuel Idaka said the visit became necessary to enable the association relate its challenges to the Speaker and members of the Assembly.

He observed that there was allegedly an apparent embargo on land transaction in the state, a situation he decried was scaring potential investors from the state.

Hon Idaka appealed to the Speaker to intervene on the issue while ensuring that the pillage of pending land transactions domiciled with the ministry of lands for about two years were given due consent, adding that all efforts so far to meet with His excellency governor Ben Ayade on  the issue had been abortive.

The NBA Calabar branch chairman hinted that the Association was willing to partner with the Cross River State House of Assembly to enhance its function and also engender good governance in the state.
 


Speaker charges Bridge Foundation on Leadership

The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly Rt. Hon John Gaul Lebo has charged the Bridge Leadership Foundation to rise up to the challenge of leadership in the society.

Rt. Hon Lebo who gave the charge recently when the management of the foundation visited his office in Calabar observed that there was a startling leadership vacuum which urgently  needs to be filled else the future could be bleak.

He maintained that good leadership was key to a better future calling on the bridge leadership foundation to vigorously pursue its various programmes and projects geared at building young leaders for the future.

While commending the foundation’s efforts at youth mentorship and training initiatives, the Speaker who expressed optimism at the Foundation's capacity to positively impact the lives of young people also pledged the Assembly’s support to enable the foundation cover more grounds.

Speaking earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Bridge Leadership Foundation,   Uchina Achunine said the visit became necessary to enable the foundation solicit the support and cooperation of the Assembly towards it programmes.

He said that the foundation was not resting on its resolve to inculcate good leadership values on the youth while building their capacities to fill the leadership gap currently being experienced in society.

Uchina stated that the foundation had concluded plans to reach out to the young in post primary, tertiary institutions and even government establishments with a view to bequeathing good leadership traits that would forestall the looming leadership catastrophe in the society, adding that the foundation was now poised to render remedial services on leadership for those already occupying public offices and others.
 
 
 
UNICAL chamber of Justice assured of Support
The Victor Ndoma-Egba Chamber of Justice of the University of Calabar Faculty of law has been assured of necessary support to actualise its programmes.

Speaker of the Cross River state House of Assembly Rt. Hon John Gaul Lebo gave the assurance in his office recently when he received a delegation of the chamber.

Hon Gaul observed that The Victor Ndoma-Egba Chambers of Justice of the University of Calabar Faculty of law was a very commendable initiative that would not only help to brighten the scope of the students but also add value to their career pursuit.

He also charged the chamber to evolve a yearly lecture bothering on building a good career for the students and the future of the faculty while re-iterating his willingness to support the chamber in its activities.

Earlier, the chief principal partner of the chamber, Ohatu Ohatu Ekoh notified the Speaker of the chamber’s blueprint adding that the Chamber’s magazine would soon be published for the benefit of both students and staff of the faculty as well as the general public.

Ekoh also solicited the support and cooperation of the Speaker to achieve the chamber’s goals.
 
CRSHA Speaker hails MCMA
The Minnesota Church Ministry Association has been commended by the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon John Gaul Lebo for choosing to hold its annual international conference in Calabar, the Cross River state capital.

The Minnesota Church Ministry Association (MCMA) is a United States of America-based organisation with a global spread including Cross River. The church since its establishment 63 years ago would be holding its first international conference outside the US in Calabar from 3rd – 7th October, 2017.

Rt. Hon Lebo who was delighted that the event which would hold in the state and for the first time on the African soil was a crucial endorsement of the potentials of the state at the international scene adding that it would also help to boost religious tourism, spiritual as well as economic well-being of the state among other benefits.

He said that the Cross River State Government would be willing to support MCMA to ensure that the event was successfully hosted.

Speaking earlier, the Cross River State Director of the Minnesota Church Ministry Association (MCMA) His Grace Arch Bishop Richard Offiong Eyamba who disclosed the forthcoming event to the Speaker solicited the support of the government towards the conference.

Arch bishop Eyamba expressing optimism about the international conference which would attract delegates across the world, averred that the spiritual and economic well-being of the state would be immensely impacted.
 
Speaker hints on border security agency bill
In a bid to effectively check incessant breakdown of law and order and recurring security challenges in border communities, the Cross River state House of Assembly would soon introduce the ‘Cross River State Border Security & Protection Bill’.

The Cross River State Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon John Gaul Lebo who gave the hint recently when he received a delegation of the Cross River state chapter of Police Community Relations Committee in his office in calabar, stated that the bill has become very expedient to help check security breaches in border communities and to protect dwellers in these communities.

He said the bill if passed into law would establish the Border Security & Protection Agency that would ensure the operative implementation of the law and other matters relating to border security and protection.

The speaker who observed that security was a top priority in the Ayade administration said that both homeland security and the yet to be established Border Security outfits in collaboration with other security agencies would help to significantly curtail insecurity and also enhance community policing in the state.

“We understand the importance of security in our individual and economic wellbeing. That was why we enacted the Homeland security bill and still in pursuit of security in the state, we will soon have a law that will establish border security agency to help address insecurity in our border communities”, he said.

Earlier, the leaders of the delegation of the PCRC Cross River State chapter Elder Ernest Attah said the committee decided to visit the Speaker in view of its on going security and awareness campaign in the state.  

He solicited the cooperation of the Assembly towards the programmes and activities of the committee in the state.
