The 36 days industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities, ASUU, has officially been suspended NegroidHaven can confirm. 

ASUU President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, stated the conditional suspension at a briefing at the Nigeria Labour Congress secretariat O  Monday evening. It directed 

Ogunyemi informed that  the strike was suspended after the union gave the Federal Government a deadline of the end of October to fulfil its promises.

According to Prof Ogunyemi, 'After an elaborate and extensive consultation process, the National Executive Council of ASUU has agreed to conditionally suspend the ongoing strike action.

'So, all members of ASUU are to resume work after their branch congresses on Tuesday (tomorrow), September 19. However, ASUU will not hesitate to review its position, should the government renege on its MoA, which you all witnessed today.'

At the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the federal government delegation led by the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige and ASUU led by its national chairman. 

Mr. Ngige said both parties produced 'collective agreement of action' after the meeting.
