The suspended Chairman of the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property, Chief Okoi Ofem Obono-Obla, has revealed that taking a head on collision against corruption in Nigeria is tough NegroidHaven has learnt.
According to a statement recently credited to Chief Obla-Obono and going viral on social media, the corruption czar, who observed that Nigerians are in profound challenge, said the letter announcing his temporary relieve from office as Chairman of the Asset Recovery panel was misinterpreted by the press. Chief Obono-Obla insisted that he hasn’t been suspended or removed as Chairman of the said panel.
His words, ‘Fighting corruption is tough in Nigeria ! Wow ! We are in serious trouble ! You can imagine an innocuous internal memo from Honourable Attorney General of the Federation to me on procedural lapses concerning the Special Presidential Investigation Panel would elicit inconceivable different and varying slants and interpretation my the media in the country! It is sad !
‘Folks I have not been suspended or removed as Chairman of the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for Recovery of Public Property! All the allegation or speculations making the rounds is the figment of imagination of detractors and agents of corruption”!
Our correspondent however preyed on the now controversial document signed by the Attorney General of the Federation, Malami citing the portion defining Obono-Obla’s suspension: ” In view of the foregoing coupled with the directives contained in the letter under reference, YOU ARE HEREBY DIRECTED TO REFRAIN FROM ANY FURTHER ACTION OR TAKING ANY STEP IN YOUR CAPACITY AS THE CHAIRMAN of the Special Investigation Panel on the Recovery of Public Property with immediate effect until directed otherwise by His Excellency, the Vice President’. Besides, the Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines suspension thus: ‘the act of stopping or delaying someth ing for a usually short period of time ‘. The lexicon further defines it thus :’the act of forcing someone to leave a job, position, or place for a usually short period of time as a form of punishment : the act of suspending someone’. By the above definition, isn’t this rendering by the cited letter a suspension going by the lexical definition? Hmmm!
No two persons can hold similar opinions —Emmanuel Undie
Mr Emmanuel Undie, a social commentator and politician has observed that no two persons can hold similar opinions. He said this in reaction to the perception that Obono-Obla is brash. He said that nobody has the right to assess Obla.
According to him, ‘What is evil in the first place and what is good in this case? The logic in life is that people have a way they do things. One man’s style may be perceived differently by one and the other. The fact that I don’t like what you do doesn’t invalidate, nullify or render it worthless. There is nowhere that people are ever going to be d same or do things d same way. Even if the majority is right over another person’s actions or style, we are still who we are and that’s what matters.
‘I take exception to this fact that people feel Obla or anybody else may be a bad guy, is brash, is this and is that because of what he is or how he does things or even how he may be choosing to do what he does. Whatever he does is his business. However he acts is his personal choice. I don’t think people should take so much interest in another man’s business. Any one who doesn’t like it doesn’t have to read him or listen to him or even associate with him. The demands of maturity should position us to think right. We are at no liberty to assess him or anybody at that. I doubt if he deserves our sympathy or condemnation. Nothing here requires sympathy. And nothing here requires condemnation.
‘Those of you that have a voice, mature in the use of that voice. Neither do I, in all these, feel Obla has fallen. Why should any one in his wildest imagination think so? Even if he is out of government, does anyone in govt stay forever? Everyone there is going to be out one day. Why must it be tagged a fall? All these amount to intrusion and unnecessary nosiness into other people’s lives and businesses. This is a little piece of advice not just about this post but to everybody who threw in an opinion on this matter. We should all be busy with our own businesses instead of pilfering on others’.
