Cross River State Governor, Mr Ben Ayade, has insisted that the state government will beat the deadline for the ongoing renovation work at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent orientation camp, Obubra to enable it host the November 22nd date for the resumption of orientation nationwide.
The governor spoke through his Honourable Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Comrade Asu Okang, who also is the NYSC governing board chair in the state, insisted that efforts had been doubled by activating both night and day shifts as workers were seen working at night with the use of power generating sets.
The commissioner used the opportunity to debunk rumours making the rounds that Cross River may not be hosting the November batch of the NYSC orientation programme, stating that ''His Excellency, the Governor has directed that we complete all ongoing projects at the camp before Monday the 20th November before the Corps members arrive on Tuesday. That's why we had to double our effort, workforce and even working hours to ensure that the brand new 400 capacity twin hostels with 24 compartment lavatory, the renovation of four other hostel blocks in both male and female hostels are all completed so that Corps members can return to Obubra'', he said.
The young Commissioner who was visibly enthusiastic about the project completion, expressed confidence that the Ben Ayade administration is doing every thing possible to put smiles on the faces of Cross Riverians, and assured that Corps members are not going back to COE Akamkpa where the last two orientation courses had held.
He therefore appealed for calm from the youth and people of Obubra assuring that both the State Government and the management of NYSC are doing their best to ensure a successful hosting of the orientation course in the state.
