It was Monday 6th January 2018, I arrived at U. J. Stadium at the IBB Way section in the evening where I would board a cab to Etta Agbor by Orok Orok Roundabout —I had just left Queensley Offiong Bassey the adorable chef at the Asari Esu, Calabar residence of Senator Gershom Bassey of Cross River Southern Senatorial District where he just concluded his Town Hall Meeting with his Odukpani constituents.
I approached the series of taxis already stationed to hop into one and zoom off but later on changed my mind for any taxi that would come my way.
Thus, I proceeded towards the Custom Barracks and even almost beyond. While waving at any available taxi that showed up, some would stop by, others as usual ignored me speeding pass me as if something was pursuing them.
Unfortunately, one private cab showed up and I told him my destination —’I am going to Etta Agbor by Orok Orok Roundabout… ‘, I told him. The driver, an average age man, said he wouldn’t reach there but could stop by IBB Way by Etta Agbor Roundabout.
Initially, I declined his offer but later changed my mind seeing that it was getting late and I was in a hurry having stood there for quite a while; but, before I could get in, I announced that I had N500 note. This was for a charge of N50.
The man said he hadn’t N450 change, and decided to zoom off but, before he would move, I requested that he should still drop me off at Etta Agbor by IBB Way —I had money to fix my bill, but, he’d not the change and his car was empty.
Do you know that the driver, a man old enough to be my father, said no and zoomed off leaving me there stranded —he left me there with no passenger in his taxi! —I had money to fix my transportation bill, but, he’d not the change and his car was empty and he still decided on leaving empty.
No kindness, no humanity. Hmmm!
