According to the vision bearer of GSJ, Mr Kalu Chijioke Ume, while addressing pressmen today in Calabar said that the music fiesta started 2 years ago with the sole aim of taking the gospel from the four walls of the church to reaching out to those who may not have been opportune to go to the church, those society have written off.
His words, ‘Gospel Street Jamz started sometime 2016. The vision just came when we thought of taking the gospel from the four walls of the church to the streets, with the mindset of reaching out to lost souls, those who have never been opportune to go to church, those society have written off.
ArtistA alrealr in Calabar for the event…

‘So, the vision came and we couldn’t hesitate, than to run with it. We thought of how to carry this vision out : we called few friends, had the first meeting, reached out to people in various areas —publicity, media, sound… Then we just had to fix a date. The first edition of Gospel Street Jamz held on 10th of April 2016, it was a huge success. The second edition held on 23rd of April 2017. We have never thought of quitting, we still have to carry on. And here we are planning for the third edition. The journey has been so smooth, it has been challenging.
‘In the first edition, we were able to record about 1,500 attendees with hundreds giving their lives to Christ. There’s no much publicity just as we have now, but just a few calls to some churches, artists, who heeded our call. It was a huge success anyways. On the second edition, which was last year 23rd of April, we decided to do something different by going outside Cross River —we had Joe Praiz, Pst Johnny Akpanke, Simeon Douglas, Abigail Bassey, Ekanem Esu, Caleb Rex and the turn out was wow!… The attendees increased to 3,000 plus, the whole of Marian was blocked. One thing we wouldn’t stop doing is giving people the opportunity to give their lives to Christ. And we had a good number of them… People were running out with their green bottles’.
NegroidHaven has learnt that there will be live streaming of tomorrow’s event via social media handles —Facebook : @official_gospelstreetjamz, Instagram :

Ume has said this year’s edition will see the introduction of our Africaness in the music presentation, away from the prevailing usual western-style orientation particularly the use of wooden drums, etc. ‘This year’s edition promises to be awesome’, Ume assured.
