The Izzi people of Ebonyi State, Sunday, stormed Ipollo Elugbala community in southern Ukelle, Cross River State entirely razing down through killings of unconfirmed numbers of Cross Riverians and burning down residences NegroidHaven can report.
Report has it that the Palace of the clan head of Mfuma/Ntrigom, His Royal Majesty Ubet Stephen Odom and numerous other homes where completely burnt down by the bloodthirsty rascals from Izzi in Ebonyi. This is not without the killings of residents, male and female too.
The unfortunate incidents happened yesterday, according to a source, while southern Ukelle waited for an already scheduled peace talk which never held.
According to one Mr Joe Esse, an indigene from southern Ukelle, who took to Facebook to register narrate the situation, his story of yesterday’s incident goes thus: ‘Today 8th August 2018, Izzi slaughtered many Ukelle sons and daugthers, burnt down my father’s house, the palace of HRM Ubet Stephen Odom (Clan head of Mfuma/Ntrigom clan) and many homes in Ipollo Elugbala, south Ukelle, while we were waiting for a scheduled peace meeting locally today.’
‘Today was proposed to be a peace meeting day after Izzi stormed Ukelle on the 4th of July, killing many and burning homes after a peace meeting on the 3rd of July with both Deputy Governors from the two warring states, plus DG National Boundary Commission, in the presence of army chiefs, police boss, etc’, he continued.
Esse while calling for help, implicated the government of neighbouring Ebonyi for complicity saying that, ‘Please help us, the government of Cross River State has done so much to restore peace, the Ukelle nation has proposed daily for peace, but our people are slaughtered daily in the bid for peace and peaceful coexistence.
‘Howbeit, I put it to the Government and people of Ebonyi state, that they are sponsoring the crisis and sabotaging the efforts of the Ukelle people and government of Cross River State to restore peace.’
The SA Electronic Media to the Governor of Cross River State, Ms Beatrice Akpala, who described yesterday as ‘black Sunday’ took to her social media account to upload graphic pictures of the killings, burning. While mourning she queried the lingering nature of the crisis, ‘My heart bleeds for my South Ukelle people… Why has the South Ukelle/Izzi War refused to end…Please pray for my people #Ukelle Is Burning’.

It’s surprising that the Federal Government through the Inspector General of Police has despatched 30,000 police officers to PDP-controlled Ekiti State in view of the forthcoming general elections, but, is yet to commission even a thousand officers to the Izzi/Ukelle war.
It’s demoralising to understand that this communal land dispute has lasted for over ten years and successive state governments on both sides couldn’t evolve a lasting solution.
It’s been observed that this security crisis has not gotten the required news coverage or even public condemnation.
Hmmm!
