Harryfield Montessori Schools operates a blended educational curriculum for her pupils and students. This unique curriculum embodies the British, American and 10% Nigerian educational curricula NEGROIDHAVEN has garnered.
The three and half years existing school adopted this blended curriculum because of the insufficiency of each of the curriculum already mentioned. According to the Headmistress, Ekpoanwan Ayi she said that in their research it was discovered that there are features in these respective curricula which are worth coveting. And these features are lacking in the Nigerian curriculum. Besides, she added that the Nigerian curriculum is static being that has not been updated for a while.
Her words, 'We don't have any disagreement per se, we only have a concern; the concern is that the Nigerian curriculum has not been updated for a long time. So, having studied the updated curriculum of the Bristish-American system and the Montessori system, we discovered that some of the things are lacking in the Nigerian system.
'Could you imagine that in the Nigerian curriculum, you have that a child of primary one should be able to do 1 to 50. Meanwhile, other curricula are saying that a child of primary one who is six years old child should know more than 1 to 50.
'Since we start from 3 years old to raise our kids, our children would have been able to do that three years ago'.
Harryfield Montessori Schools is both in Calabar in Cross River State and Lagos in Lagos State.
