CRIDCOM Prepares to Receive 7 Cross Riverians Rescued from Human Trafficking in Ghana

Calabar– The Cross River State Diaspora Commission (CRIDCOM) has announced that it is set to receive seven Cross River indigenes who were among 231 Nigerian youths recently rescued from human trafficking syndicates in Ghana NEGROIDHAVEN has confirmed.

The rescue operation, facilitated by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), follows months of high-level engagements spearheaded by the Federal Government through the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana, alongside efforts from Callistus Elozieuwa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Rescue Life Foundation International/NIDO Ghana.

In a statement released on Friday, CRIDCOM expressed heartfelt gratitude to NIDCOM for its critical role in repatriating the victims, as well as appreciation to Wema Bank of Nigeria and the Office of the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for their invaluable support in ensuring the success of the operation.

According to CRIDCOM, the rescued individuals had endured months of confinement, exploitation, and abuse, with many forced into cybercrime activities by their traffickers. The Commission also acknowledged the role played by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) in Ghana, commending the agency for its effective handling of the situation and the humane treatment extended to the Nigerian victims while in custody.

Speaking on behalf of the Commission, Otu Okor, Chairman of CRIDCOM, assured that the agency is fully committed to facilitating the rehabilitation and reintegration of the victims into society. “We are dedicated to providing the necessary support systems to help these young citizens rebuild their lives and recover from the trauma they experienced,” he said.

The rescued Cross Riverians are expected to arrive in Nigeria soon, where CRIDCOM officials will formally receive them and commence their reintegration process.
