Calabar–The Cross River State Government has announced the appointment of a management team to oversee the newly established University of Education and Entrepreneurship in Akamkpa Local Government Area. The appointments, approved by the Acting Governor, Peter Odey, mark a significant step in the transition of the former College of Education into a full-fledged university NEGROIDHAVEN has garnered.
The newly appointed officials, who assume their roles with immediate effect, include:
1. Professor Patrick Nyong Asuquo – Vice-Chancellor
– Former Provost of the College of Education, Akamkpa.
2. Dr. Gabriel O. Egbe – Registrar
3. Dr. Eyo Bassey Ekpe – Bursar
4. Dr. Christopher Okoi Offem – Librarian
5. Chief (Dr.) Akpeh Edung Ogon – Director of Physical Planning
6. Engr. Bassey Ibok Eyo – Director of Works and Services
The management team is tasked with ensuring a smooth transition and successful takeoff of the university, which is expected to focus on education and entrepreneurship—a key pillar of the state’s human capital development agenda.
A source has disclosed that the upgrade from a college to a university signifies the state’s commitment to expanding access to higher education and fostering innovation. While the inclusion of entrepreneurship in the university’s mandate aligns with global trends in job creation and self-reliance.
“This appointment reflects our dedication to building institutions that will drive educational excellence and economic empowerment in Cross River State,” Nsa Gill the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor stated in a recent press release.
The university is expected to commence academic activities soon, with further details on programmes and admissions to be released by the new management.
