Calabar– The Cross River South Consultative Forum (CRSCF) on Friday called for greater accountability from contractors handling the Odukpani-Itu-Ikot Ekpene Federal Highway, particularly Julius Berger and Sermatech. The Forum during a press briefing with journalists in Calabar expressed disappointment with the slow pace of work and the subpar quality of construction on the critical road NEGROIDHAVEN has learnt.

While Julius Berger, known for its reputation in quality road construction, has abandoned the site for over a year, Sermatech’s work has been criticized for lacking depth and durability. “The concrete pavements constructed by Sermatech are riddled with honeycombs and vibrations. They won’t stand the test of time,” the CRSCF stated. The Forum has called on Sermatech to revisit and rectify these issues immediately.

The CRSCF emphasized that its advocacy is driven by patriotism and a desire to see the project completed to the highest standards. “We hold no ill feelings towards the construction companies. All we demand is quality work and the absence of delays, because our people are truly suffering,” the statement read.

The Forum is urging the Federal Government to hold the contractors accountable and ensure the timely completion of the road. “The suffering of our people must end, and the only way to achieve this is through transparency, accountability, and quality work,” the CRSCF concluded
