Social commentator Anthony Bissong Attah has ignited a debate on social media after sharply criticizing Ikom Local Government Area’s Chief Press Secretary, Ntem Chris, for a poorly crafted rejoinder that misrepresented his current status. In his original Facebook post, Attah lambasted the CPS for addressing him as the “YPP Chairmanship candidate”—a title he no longer holds—and questioned the professionalism of the local government’s media handling NEGROIDHAVEN can say.
“A good CPS should seek to know the true identity of the person they are writing about. This guy needs a lot of professional training,” Attah asserted, adding that the response not only failed to address the issues raised in his earlier post titled “CHOP ALONE, PRAY ALONE” but also perpetuated a pattern of incompetence in Ikom LGA’s communications. He further recalled a previous incident where a diploma holder was controversially appointed as Legal Adviser before a qualified lawyer was eventually assigned, urging local leadership to improve the quality of appointments and media practices.
In a surprising twist, Attah generously offered free PR training to the CPS, suggesting that online classes from renowned media professionals such as Agba Jalingo, George Odok Jnr, Efio-Ita Nyok, and Richard Friday Inoyo might help remedy the shortcomings.
Following the outcry, Ntem Chris has now issued a response on the official Ikom LGA communication channels. “I appreciate the feedback and the opportunity to clarify the matter,” the CPS wrote. “The reference to Mr. Attah’s previous affiliation as YPP Chairmanship candidate was based on records available at the time of drafting our statement. It was never our intention to misrepresent his current status, and I regret any oversight that may have caused confusion.” He stressed that the response was prepared in line with standard operating procedures and pledged to review internal processes to ensure greater accuracy in future communications.
