Cross River Civil Service Commission Receives Over 32,000 Applications for 500 Job Openings

The Cross River State (CRS) Civil Service Commission is currently conducting its 2024 recruitment exercise, receiving an overwhelming response from applicants across the state. As of the latest data, a total of 32,341 individuals have applied for just 500 available positions in various cadres within the civil service NEGROIDHAVEN has garnered.

In its interim report released on its social media platform, the commission revealed that 17,358 of the applicants are females, while 14,977 are males. This indicates a near-even gender distribution, with women slightly outnumbering men in this year’s recruitment exercise.

Breakdown by Positions

The positions advertised cut across a range of sectors, with the most sought-after roles being administrative and support services. Notably, the position of Clerical Officers attracted the highest number of applicants, with 8,358 individuals vying for the limited slots. Other positions with high application numbers include:

– Administrative Officers: 7,700 applicants

– Messengers: 1,916 applicants

– Planning Officers: 1,693 applicants

– Information Officers: 1,673 applicants

In contrast, more specialized roles such as Procurement Officers and Budget Officers received comparatively fewer applications, standing at 979 and 712 applicants, respectively.

Gender Distribution by Position

The report also provides insights into the gender distribution across different positions. For instance, the nursing cadre saw a large number of applications with 1,240 registered applicants, most of whom are expected to be female, while Medical Doctors attracted 49 applicants.

Cadres and Qualifications

In terms of qualifications, positions like Medical Doctors required MBBCH qualifications, while Nurses needed RN/RM/BNSC credentials. Administrative roles such as Accounting Officers and Planning Officers were filled by candidates with qualifications in public and business administration.

Some of the key cadres include:

– Fire Service Officers: 1,471 applicants

– Nutrition Officers: 1,159 applicants

– Data Processing Officers: 1,229 applicants

– Security/Watchmen: 551 applicants

The commission has promised to release a breakdown of applicants by local government areas in the coming days, offering further analysis on the geographic spread of the applicants. As the recruitment process advances, attention will turn to shortlisting candidates for interviews and screening based on the set criteria for each cadre.

Multidimensional Poverty 

Recall that as at 2022, the NBS report disclosed that Cross River struggles with 3.44 million people living in multidimensional poverty; this data constitutes a staggering 75.6 percent of the state’s population.

Way Forward

With over 32,000 candidates applying for only 500 openings, the competition is expected to be stiff. The CRS Civil Service Commission has reassured the public that the process will be transparent and based on merit, emphasizing that only the most qualified and suitable candidates will be selected for the available positions.
