SENATOR Gershom Bassey, the Senator representing the southern Senatorial district of Cross River State was on Wednesday evening attacked by his opponent, Ntufam Ekpo Okon leaving with serious injuries.
Senator Gershom Bassey who went to Transcorps hotel Calabar where members of the electoral panel are camped to meet Ekpo Okon to resolve the stalemate over the primary election for the Senate primary in the district was inflicted serious blows by his opponents and thugs which filled the room.
The attacked which was witnessed by many people who were in the room was also extended to Mr Femi a member of the electoral committee which left him with a bleeding nose while other members of the panel had their clothes thorn.
Senator Gershom who is receiving treatment in an unknown location told our reporter on phone that he was severe pains following the attack by Ekpo Okon and his thugs and is in hospital.
“My car was driven by Ekpo to the police station and left there and when I went to meet him in the hotel to discuss on how the election can take place, I was attacked and wounded. I am now in hospital He said.
Our reporter’s effort to get the reaction of Ekpo Okon who was a former chairman of the PDP in the state was fruitless as he did not answer the call placed on his phone by our reporter.
