Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Ekiti chapter reportedly collaborated with the winning political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just concluded Ekiti gubernatorial elections over the weekend NegroidHaven has confirmed.
Our news outfit got wind of this development yesterday in a phone interview with a chieftain of IPAC in Cross River State who pleaded anonymity. According to the source, one of the reasons for the surprising and disappointing failure of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti guber race was the connivance of the political parties umbrella body with the APC.
The reliable source said that, ‘it would interest you to know that IPAC, with the exception of the affected PDP in Ekiti, signed the election results sheets immediately after the elections, as a demonstration of their endorsement for Dr Fayemi and his APC. Fayose and the PDP refused to fund political parties structures in his state. This may have been one of the reasons for the poor outing at the poll’.
An earlier probe with another chieftain of IPAC, revealed that the incumbent governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade, had decided to work with only four political parties in the state with the intention to ignore others. Whether he’s changed his mind, is yet to be ascertained.
There were reports of massive votes buying in the just concluded election. PDP had reportedly paid eligible voters the sum of N3, 000 while APC bought for N5, 000 allegedly.
Dr Kayode Fayemi emerged the winner of the guber election in Ekiti with a towering votes of 197, 459 against Prof Eleka’s 174, 114 votes, the difference being 19, 345 against the latter.
BLOGGERTORIAL
There are sentiments amongst social commentators that poverty has been monetised and even weaponised by the elite political class in Nigeria.
For me, in addition to poverty, poor education has been monetised/ weaponised. It seems, the average Nigerian will never get quality education, while the gap between the haves and the have-nots will continually expand as politicians are bent on winning elections without the requisite popularity in a democracy. Hmmm!
