The digital Governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ben Ayade has boosted the internet connectivity of the Ayade Industrial Park by extending the Smartcity to the park.
The Governor made this known at the weekend in Calabar, during a working tour to the industrial Park where he inspected the laying of optic fibre cables that will transmit the smart connections to the park.
The concept of the Smartcity is the application of technology for efficiency and effectiveness in the daily living of citizens. Calabar smartcity will enable Calabar and eventually, Cross River State, become digitally smart, more efficient and effective.
Ayade who interacted with Martina Medac, the leader of Congny Systems and Goldspot Group, the German Group handling the contract, pointed out that the project will transform the Industrial park into a digital hub.
According to the Governor, the Smart city will digitalise the entire facet of Cross River State, resulting in the ease of doing business in the state. "I'm glad that my vision for the state is fast materialising. This project will positively affect every area of life in Cross River.
"This is a revolution that will sweep across all the sectors of the state's economy from health, to Education, tourism, entertainment. Indeed every facet of our lives will experience a leap in efficiency. The first phase of the project will involve deploying Wi-Fi hotspots across the city, covering the airport, Mary Slessor, Calabar Road, Marian Road and providing access to high speed internet connectivity. It will also extend to the industrial park, satellite towns, state housing estates and parliamentary.
"With this, citizens are able to access content that would include IPTV (Wi-Fi based as well as fiber based. The IPTV platform would provide rich content to showcase our culture, tourist sites and enable people to visit Cross River online realtime. This will thus enhance our internally generated revenue, while enabling government function more effectively," he said.
Ayade also affirmed that the industrialization efforts would be further enhanced with "unlimited access to data services, opening up our institutions and facilities to Information online, real-time to latest trends in technology and Connected healthcare would enhance and create access for our people to get quality and affordable health services especially supporting the Ayade-Care project, with institutions connected," he said.
The project which the Governor revealed would be called Calasmart, would enhance collaboration, improve response time and ease operation.
Prof Ayade was recently recognised as the best welfare governor by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).
