Speaker Lebo recommissions a police post at Ekureku; officially hands it over to the police

A police post built in 2011 at Ekureku, Abi local government area by the erstwhile administration of Senator Liyel Imoke was yesterday recommissioned and officially handed over to the Nigeria Police Force by the Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. John Gaul Lebo, who is also the member representing Abi state constituency in the 8th Assembly NegroidHaven can say.
The recommissioning and handing over ceremony which was brief took place at Ekureku community. This came after the Speaker had earlier in the day flagged off his free medical outreach programme at Itigidi, still in Abi.
Speaking before performing the ceremony, Mr Lebo confirmed that the police post was built and commissioned by Liyel Imoke's administration in 2011, but was not officially handed over to the police due to bureaucratic bottleneck.
He stated that the handing over became necessary in view of the fact that the post locates in a boundary community, which he noted, will check incessant clashes between Ekureku and other communities in neighbouring Ebonyi State, if operational.
Honourable Lebo revealed that he has secured the commitment of the state commissioner of police, Mr Hafiz Inua as regard deployment of armed policemen to man the post.
Responding, the acting divisional police officer in Abi, Mr Johnson Offor, expressed gratitude to the Honourable Speaker for the gesture, while also intimating the law maker with challenges that may likely impede the smooth functioning of the facility, which he highlighted to include the absence of electricity, pipe-borne water and parameter fence.
The Speaker however promised to address the problems listed out by the DPO as soon as possible to enable the police post be optimally utilized.
The event was witnessed by chiefs, elders and youths of the community, who all lauded Honourable Lebo in their goodwill messages.
