In the next one year, people in Abi local government area will enjoy continuous free and quality healthcare services, courtesy of member representing Abi state constituency and Speaker, 8th Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. John Gaul Lebo our correspondent has confirmed.
The healthcare services will cover minor and serious health challenges, including complicated surgeries, with Eja Memorial Hospital, Itigidi constituting one of the major healthcare facilities to be utilized.
In a ceremony to officially flag off the free medical outreach programme, tagged, 'Abi Health Insurance Scheme' yesterday at the School of Nursing, Itigidi, Abi local government area, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. John Gaul Lebo, expressed appreciation to the people for turning out en masse to witness and partake in the exercise, even as he appealled to the people to avail themselves of the opportunity, noting that health is wealth.
He also urged primary healthcare workers in all the wards to mobilize the people for treatment, saying drugs have already been paid for.
Earlier in her remark, the commissioner for health, Dr(Mrs) Inyang Asibong, lauded the Speaker for keying into AyadeCare initiative which she says is aimed at providing quality and accessible healthcare services to Cross Riverians.
She however stated that the free medical outreach programme sponsored by the Honourable Speaker is managed by AyadeCare, and that it will make Abi the pilot local government area in the state to roll out Cross River Health Insurance Scheme.
Dr Asibong added that the state ministry of health will ensure that the exercise is effectively monitored. The commissioner therefore charged healthcare workers to re-double their efforts in order to make the programme a success.
There were also goodwill messages from members representing Yakurr I and II state constituencies in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Nelson Ofem and Hon. Jonas Eteng Williams, as
well as the paramount ruler of Abi local government area, HRH Eval Lawrence Egbe and the principal, School of Nursing and Midwifery, Itigidi, Sir Aji Eko.
