Our Correspondent|7 December 2017The Prelate and Moderator of the General Assembly, Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, His Eminence, Most Rev. Nzie Eke has revealed that tithing was biblical but what was breeding controversy was its usage as well as the proliferation of "fake Churches" in the country.Rev Eke made this known shortly after the just concluded All Presbyterian National Conference held in Calabar.Speaking with newsmen he said that nothing was wrong with tithing becuase it was scriptural and can be found in several portion of the bible but the major challenge was how its used.
According to him: "What matters is the reformation of a man's heart but a lot of churches are only interested in what you have in your pocket".
"Nothing is wrong with tithing, it is in the bible and very biblical. The issue is not whether it is right or wrong but the controversy it has generated is because of what it is used for"."We are mostly farmers in this part, no right thinking farmer can eat his seed yam because that is the future of his farm, for the fact that you are been blessed you have to recognize that there some one doing all that for you, and you need to show him that you are grateful".Speaking further the Prelate said the growth of the church was welcome development but cautioned Christian to be at alert because a lot fake churches are springing up in our society.According to him: "What matters is the reformation of a man's heart but a lot of churches are only interested in what you have in your pocket""What is paramount is the soul, and not sacrament, we must draw closer to God and fear him because after all said and done the salvation of every soul is the most essential thing".He hinted that the 500 years of reformation since 1517 till date was an insight by a young man who believed in the reformation of man through faith in Christ Jesus and pursued it."I believe that ideas rule the world and that insight and it has grown thus far, what the world needs is reformation of heart and become closer to God and all will fall in place" he stated.
