The Government of Cross River State is demanding payment of levies for 'carbon emissions/pollution fees' from restaurants, eateries, supermarkets, and mega stores operators NegroidHaven can say.
The Environment and Carbon Emissions Board, which is responsible for the collection of this levy has cited Schedule 1, subsections i, ii of Cross River State Law No. 7 of 2016. This board has threatened litigations, in seven days, should these business owners not comply.
The tax, which our correspondent has not confirmed when it was issued has incited unpleasant reactions. For instance, @PapiTinny, a twitter user took this to his handle to bear his feelings, according to him, 'Abeg make Una help me come see matter for Calabar.. We’ve been asked to pay task/Levy on Carbon Emission abeg is this one Legit or Task fraud?? @efccnigeria @HitFMCalabar Please help us understand & RT till it gets to the correct authorities and government officials.'

The challenge with this board is that they are yet to tell residents and indigenes of Cross River State how they intend to combat carbon emissions air pollution and degradation? Cross Riverians need a policy document in this regard as well as a town-hall meeting to deliberate the underlying nuances of the said environmental population law. Besides, we want the enabling law by the 8th Cross River State House of Assembly in public space.
