Speaking on leadership, Health and Personal Hygiene at the four days Four Pillars Plus Girls Leadership training Camp at Pearl Ball Hall, Transcorp Hotel Calabar, Dr Betta Edu said young women should dream more, do more and become more in the society NegroidHaven has learnt.
While taking them through their basic body hygiene, health and leadership qualities she noted that it is the right of young girls to ask questions and their right to get answers about their sexual and reproductive health.
According to her, "First as a young girl and a potential leader you must build self confidence and as a female that deserves to have equal opportunity like the male gender you must prepare yourself by building capacity to deliver".
She informed them; that as they grow older they start seeing body changes and even emotional change but how to manage this change differentiate a leader from others: "Start leading from where you are now! Your table, your church, class and home. Take responsibility for things and bring solutions", she concluded.
She went further to equip the young girls with strategies and attributes that will help them stand out as good leaders and showcase their potentials to lead.
She advised them never to be distracted by sweet tongue of the male counterpart as it could jeopardize their future. "when they ask you what's up… Tell them to allow you stay focused on going up".
Finally Dr Edu charged the young girls to abstain from sex and take ownership of their body. She taught them self breast examination.
Her lecture left most girls in tears as they asked Dr Edu several questions bothering them and discussed with her even in camera on how the can access help to their many challenges.
The girls leadership camp is organized by Four Pillar Plus project of FHI360 in collaboration with the state ministry of health and Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency and it aims to build the capacity of young girls to develop key skills in communication; critical thinking, problem solving, leadership and human relationships while at the same time build character, values and ethics which are the mark of great leaders.
