Developments surrounding the news of the 4th September failed assassination on acclaimed social change agent, Joseph Odok Esq., Ph.D is taking a new turn as commentators, bloggers, activists, etc are unanimously resolved on pressing for justice for Dr Odok in contrast to the razzmatazz of media sensation that may have characterised the ugly incident NegroidHaven can report.
The cerebral social commentator Simon Utsu, Canadian-based academic Obasesam Okoi, New York-based political pundit Peter Offem Ubi, blogger Inyali Peter of FearlessReports, Abuja-based legal luminary and rights activist Firsts Baba Isa, journalist George Odok Jnr, blogger Efio-Ita Nyok of NegroidHaven, etc have decided to steer the course for justice.
Blogger Peter's 10th September social media thread titled, 'Let's Stop the Fight and Seek Justice' reads in part, 'Nevertheless, some social commentators over the past few days have been at dagger drawn over what Mr. A said and didn't say about the alleged assassination attempt on Barr Joseph Odok. We may have spent more time questioning what people have reported or not supposed to report than demanding unbiased investigation from the security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book.
'Thank God my Comrade, Efio-Ita Nyok has realised the importance of being more focused on the main issue than trying to justify people's reports. #JusticeforJosephOdok'.
Mr Ubi's statements reads in part, 'We may lose in trying to redefine the narrative created by the enemies of Odok. We already know the truth which is very obvious …they wanted to MURDER Odok and all have observed this true reality before us.
'All agitation for the truth thus far was for justice to prevail. So lets now toe a path to securing justice. #JusticeforJosephOdok'
Blogger Nyok's statement reads in part thus: 'I think it's enough that we try to redefine the narrative created by the enemies of Dr Odok. The truth is now obvious and a keen observer can draw an independent judgment between the explanation of Dr Odok and yellow journalist(s).
'Besides, the agitation for the truth was for justice to prevail. Granted that the seeming false narrative was of disservice to Dr Odok and every other social commentator or critic; let's now concentrate on the call for justice…
'Let the narrative concentrate on delivering justice and not denying or affirming a publication, narration etc
Aluta Continua, Victoria Acerta!
#JusticeforJosephOdok'.
Isa's 9th September press statements partly reads thus: 'Whether this is an assassination attempt or a fallout from a private transaction, the attack on Mr Odok is wrong. We condemn it totally. We charge the police to bring the culprits to book.
'This will not just go away; I promise. The police should know we are serious about this. No suspect should be released without getting to the root of this matter. We will petition the Inspector General of Police and drag all the officers involved in this case nay the police force to court if this matter is not handled properly. We must get to the truth.
'Fellow Cross Riverians, it’s time to stand together as one and call evil by its name: evil. The attack on Joseph Odok is barbaric and evil. Nothing justifies that attack. Let’s stand in support of the police to investigate this issue. If the investigation shows that the powers that be wanted to kill Odok, let’s condemn it with one voice; lest tomorrow such impunity and barbarism knocks on your own door. If we find out that the Governor or powers that be has nothing to do with this, let’s condemn that wicked move to bring the governor and the office into disrepute, knowing fully well that the attack was motivated by private hurts flowing from a private transaction. The Police cannot afford to fail in this. We are watching'.
Odok Jnr., Utsu, Okoi have variously alluded to this new thrust.
The also group resolved on using the hashtag #JusticeforJosephOdok as the online rallying point to press home their demands.
