I am wishing us all a happy and peaceful international youth day of peace celebration all over our country and beyond. Here in Calabar the government organized a forum for the youths on the 11th and it was great and I know it is happened everywhere in the country.
International Youth Day 2017 is dedicated to celebrating the contributions by youth to conflict prevention and transformation as well as inclusion, social justice, and sustainable peace. Here in Nigeria we have had a lot of security issues and I don't want to go into the reasons for the security issues but I want to move you out of that position to a better place because it is said that water around the ship doesn't and cannot sink the ship but water that enters the ship and that is why this speech will be about changing our mindset.
The major problem Nigeria has is not corruption as many think but boils down to ill-fated mindset of Nigerians and we as youth have a duty to ourselves and to our generation to come out of that. Do not be part of the wrong thing because it is trending. When you say you want the best for Nigeria and as a youth in all your examinations you have been engaging in exam malpractice, are a member of a cult group, take hard drugs, and engage in cyber crimes all because you feel the government has failed you then you are that youth that should build peace around him.
IPOB youths are out, Arewa youths are out, Niger Delta Avengers are out and then we forget that the government can only play a minimal role in the development of any society. It is only positive actions and positive impact that can help bring the needed change. It is true that you alone cannot bring that change but you can be that stone thrown into the river that causes many ripples.
Any thing wrong in your environment act on changing it. Don't join the league of young genius waiting for the first person because if you do that you will rot away like many have done.
Our educational system is in serious mess as Big Brother Nigeria winner can go home with 25million Naira while the best graduating student can't go home with even half a million naira but that isn't enough reason to make it worse by joining them.
The fact that Evans has a lot of money and properties is not enough reason to join a kidnap gang. If you feel the government has failed you then don't fail yourself because there are many in the same shoe as you and some are already making it.
Organisations should stop contributing to killing our educational system because of what they will gain at the end but invest in Education more. The individual known as Mr. Dada that graduated with a 5.0 CGPA from University of Lagos has gone into oblivion but Iyanya and Chidinma are still on set. This is not fair.
My fellow youths congrats on the 'not too young to run' bill but we must make sure we are not going there for the money.
Our Country has great talents like you waiting to solve her challenges. Remember what Mary Slessor, Magaret Ekpo and our very present Malala Yousafzai have done and is doing to make the world better and join the train.
Positive thinking leading to positive and reasonable action that brings positive impact is the only way to bring and sustain peace in any society. For Sustainable Peace you need the Prince of Peace in your life so give your life to him now if you have not done so.
So think right!
Live right!
Act right!
