When people do talk down on the 8th Cross River State House of Assembly I never took them serious. Of a truth, this present Assembly is a total mess and a disgrace to Cross Riverians.
The legislature has lost its voice in toto.
If sound reasoning is anything to go by, then that glorified institution does not represent the people. Hence, its members are always arm twist to do the bidding of the executive arm of government.
Since this legislature came on board in 2015, it has never say a nay vote over fraudulent policies of the executive. At times the people feel as if there is no legislature in place to check the excesses of the executive.
In Cross River State, under the present administration, contracts are awarded without due process. Employment are made without consideration to even spread. Funds budgeted for projects are misappropriated without having the projects executed. In all these, the people are crying out and the only institution that ought to have serve as their last bastion, is rather sleeping daily at the gate of the executive, begging for lifeline. It's no longer news that the governor has the state house of assembly comfortably in his pocket. He has deviced a strategic means to systematically pauparized members of that institution. Little wonder, they go cap in hand begging for, even their statutory sitting allowance.
The legislature has also contributed immensely to the failure of leadership in Cross River State. For instance, as of the time I am putting this piece down there is no water in Calabar. This has been a recurring decimal in recent time, and the CRSHA is yet to see the need to set up a committee to investigate this ugly trend, given the place of water in human existence.
Again, the once beautiful city of Calabar has been defaced by refuse. Intra city roads are wearing out due to lack of maintenance. And yet, allocations are being made for all these. And yet also, there is a CRSHA.
