The Cross River state Governor, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade have said that members of the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC), formed Nigeria’s most valuable group of youth in view of their contributions towards national integration and development.
Ayade made it known while addressing the over 2000 Corps members at the end of Orientation course ceremony held at the Cross River State College of Education, Awi Akamkpa local Government area of the state.
The Governor who was represented at the occasion by the Cross River State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Comrade Asu Okang, said facilities at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Obubra Local Government area of the state are receiving government attention with the hope of hosting the 2017 Batch B prospective Corps members at the camp permanent site to ease the inconveniences associated with temporary camp.
He expressed government determination to providing secured operating environment for the corps members to succeed, adding that the entire NYSC stakeholders in the state, especially the security agencies are in tune with the chief security officer of the state to ensure safety of lives and properties of all residents of the state.
In the same vein, the leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria under its Chairman, Comrade Ndiyo Ndiyo (JGF) has pledged to provide special care for the National Youth Service Corps members across all the local government areas and wards in the state. This followed the synergy, which resulted in a new partnership between NYSC and the NYCN in the state.
Addressing Corps members on the Eve of the Closing Ceremony, the NYCN Chair presented a telephone directory of all the local government chapter presidents, saying ”both the chapter presidents across 18 LGA’s of the state and the youth in the state were given orientation and sensitization on the importance of giving solidarity and security to the corps members, whose presence is for the good of our people”, he added.
In her reaction , the State Coordinator of NYSC for Cross River State, Ambekemo Eniola, applauded Comrade Ndiyo’s led Exco for coming up with such critical need. She pledged to recommend such initiative to the NYSC Headquarters Abuja, for domestication across the 36 states of the Federation and the federal Capital Territory.
