Akpagu Bags Most Coveted AREWA Traditional Title

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof Zana Akpagu has bagged Garkuwan Matasan Arewa which is the most coveted traditional title given to a non-northerner.

Garkuwan Matasan Arewa which means 'Shield of Northern Youths' was conferred on Prof Akpgau today in Abuja by the Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), in Abuja.

The NYCN described the VC while presenting the award as a detribalized Nigerian with a nationalist thoughts and attributes.

President of the organization, Comrade Isa Abubakar noted that one of the challenges confronting Nigeria today is because not so many people believe in Nigeria with soul and spirit like Akpagu.

While charging him to continue using his position to promote the spirit of one Nigeria, he described him as a pace setter in educational administration.

He disclosed that the formal ceremony for the award will be coming up soon in Arewa House in Kaduna state.

Reacting, Prof Akpagu thanked the Arewa youths for the honour while pledging his commitment to keep promoting the spirit of unity among Nigerians.

He said he was elated that his efforts to transform Unical was appreciated within and outside Nigeria.

Akpgu used the opportunity to call on Nigerians to continue supportkng and pray for President Muhammadu Buhari for speedy recovery.

Recalled that the Vice Chancellor recently won 'The Nigerian'a UK based news platform and Nigeria Print Journalism Magazine "Best Vice Chancellor" of the year award.
