In what looks like an end to the incessant clashes between the Ababene and Iyamitet communities in Obubra Local Government Area, a peace pact has been signed by both communities NegroidHaven has learnt.
In an elaborate event that was held at the boundary between the traditional clans of both communnities, the people unanimously agreed that never again would they carry arms against each other again.
Speaking at the event, the chairman of the Peace and Reconciliation committee, Hon Ernest Irek expressed delight that peace will be returning to the communities after several months of war.
According to him, with the signing of the peace accord, both communnities will continue to live like brothers and sisters like it has always been.
The facilitator of the peace accord and a son of Mbembe land, Mr Chris Agara said bringing peace to all warring communities in Obubra has always been his desire and was happy that, God has been able to use him to bring peace to the Ababene and Iyamitet communities.
He expressed optimism that the peace accord by both communnities will stand the test of time.
On his part, the Member Representing Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, Hon Mike Etaba commended the Governor, Sen Ben Ayade for commissioning Mr Chris Agara to make peace between the two communities.
He expressed delight that, what seemed like an illusion has been brought to fruition adding that peace remains the sine qua non for rapid development.
