The 2017 winners of the Mr and Miss UNICAL Pageantry, Mr. Ukachukwu Uchenna and Miss Joy Azele, surprised the University community as well as their fans by going beyond entertainment to humanitarian welfare.
NHB garnered that they recently visited orphanages in Calabar metropolis as part of their efforts in identifying with the needy and less privileged in the society with a view to offering assistance.
Barely few months ago, when the 2017 Mr and Miss Unical were crowned as the winner of the pageantry competition, but for these current Kings and Queens, their one year in Office will not only be wearing of crowns.
All winners of the 2017 pageantry have set out to accomplish a series of projects, launching the first “GIVE AND TOUCH A LIFE”.
According to Mr. Unical,
"The idea of the project was born by the entire winners of Mr and Miss Unical 2017 and was developed by our Manager CEO of SEL D' AFRIQUE Miss Anita Ugoji"
"GIVE AND TOUCH A LIFE will be a continuous movement till the expiration of my tenure.
Visitation to the motherless babies home has always been my dream for the love I naturally have for children and being Mr Unical 2017 was a better platform to achieve this feat and its form the premise why I contested for the crown.
Personally as human, I know how it feels to be hungry and more devastating having no hope of tomorrow", he added.
The visit was moderated Miss Anita Ugoji CEO of SEL D'AFRIQUE with winners of the 2017 edition of Mr and Miss UNICAL, First visited the INFANT JESUS ORPHANAGE HOME,
Bateba Street, Calabar were Clothes, bags, footwear, noodles and beverages were donated to the Matron for the children.
In the company were; Ukachukwu Uchenna Jerry (Mr UNICAL 2017), Joy Azele (Miss UNICAL 2017), Khality Felix (Mr Congeniality 2017), Adie Caroline (Miss Congeniality 2017), Ibanga Utibe (MMUnical 2017, Most Creative Male), Mfonobong Essien (MMUNICAL 2017, Most creative female) and Mr. Godspower (Mr. SOSSA 2016).
Afterwards was an interactive session with the kids led by Ukachukwu were he took time to teach the children on ‘Moral, and Social Etiquettes’ emphasizing on the importance and need to practice good morals and imbibing worthy values as they grow, assuring them their current position is not a room for excuse, the future holds good plans for them.
According to Miss Unical, this first edition of the project Give and touch a life was sponsored by some principal officers of University of Calabar and some lecturers of various department and we will be ever grateful for their support. So we called on respected and meaningful Alumnus Unical to support this project as it will help to raise the university's head above her equals.
In the next edition we are planning to visit all the Senatorial district of Cross River State and the last before our tenure expires we'll extend it to neighbouring States surrounding Cross River.
