Credible information reaching our news desk has it that the number of suspected rapists in Kano State has rapidly increased.
According to Kano Police Command, the rate of social crimes like rape in the state calls for worry!
Recently, more suspected rapists have been arrested in the state, increasing the previous number from 96 to 124 between April to June.
Laying credence to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Magaji Musa Majia, who confirmed the arrest while parading the suspects before journalists at the police headquarters on last Wednesday.
He revealed that the police recorded 115 cases of rape, sodomy and other acts of indecency within the period under review.
In his words,
"128 victims were involved in the crimes, out of which 124 suspects had been arrested, 94 cases charged to courts, while 13 cases were still under investigation".
He decried the incessant rate of such socio-ethical crimes across the state with regrets that they seems to have become the order of the day. While assuring that the police would continue to work round the clock to ensure that such incidence are curtailed.
In his last Charge, DSP Majia appealed to all stake holders in religious positions, traditional rulers and other well-meaning Nigerians to unite in combating the social menace.
